Adeusi Mandu Mmatambwe
Biography
Adeusi Mandu Mmatambwe was a close friend of Edward Saidi Tingatinga and, like Tingatinga himself, of Makonde origin. He belonged to the earliest cohort of painters gathered around Tingatinga in Dar es Salaam in the years following 1968, learning directly from the founder of the style that would come to bear his name.
Mmatambwe went on to pass the technique forward, mentoring artists of the second generation of Tingatinga painters after the founder's death in 1972 and helping ensure the survival of the movement beyond its originator.
