Zaburi M. Chimwanda
Biography

Zaburi M. Chimwanda (also known as Zaburi Muradi Chimwanda and signed Z. Chimwanda) was a Tanzanian painter associated with the Tingatinga school. He was born in Nakapanya in 1947 and moved to Dar es Salaam in 1970.

The Tingatinga Arts Cooperative Society identifies Chimwanda as a student of Omary Amonde and one of the cooperative’s founders. His paintings continued the school’s vivid, decorative approach to animal life.

A work signed “Z. Chimwanda,” dated broadly to 1973–1992, is held by Oslo Museum. Chimwanda died in 2013.
