Credited within Makonde sculpture scholarship as the originator of the abstract shetani spirit-figure genre, first carved and sold in Dar es Salaam around 1959 under the patronage of the entrepreneur Mohamed Peera, and recognised as among the first Makonde carvers to sign his sculptures.
