New Essay: Congolese Popular Painting
Our new essay, Congolese Popular Painting, tells the story of a circle of self-taught sign painters and comic-strip illustrators who, working the avenues of Kinshasa in the early 1970s, turned their billboard trade into a bold new form of fine art addressed directly to the people who walked past it every day.
It's the backdrop for artists we represent including Chéri Samba, Chéri Chérin, Art Bodo and Peintre Moke.
