New Artist: Asiru Olatunde
We're pleased to welcome Asiru Olatunde (1918–1993) to the gallery. Born in Oshogbo, Nigeria, into a family of blacksmiths, Olatunde trained in the trade before, encouraged by the writer Ulli Beier and the artist Suzanne Wenger, developing his own distinctive repoussé technique — incising and hammering scenes into copper and aluminum panels.
His compositions draw on Yoruba oral tradition and mythology alongside Biblical stories, and his available panels can now be viewed in his gallery.
